A 30 Day Writing Challenge
So I have decided to challenge myself to thirty days of writing. I will be writing about a variety of topics, mostly prompts I have found and I think will be interesting to share. I want to become a better writer, and hope that some of these force me to write in more creative ways.
Today’s post is sharing with you ten things that make me really happy. Happiness is something we all desire and are constantly working towards. But there is happiness in small things, not just acheiving life goals, and that is what I want to focus on today. The small things that make me really happy.

Cozy Bed
One thing that brings me so much peace and happiness is my pillow. It might be funny to some that a pillow makes me happy, but when I lay down at night, especially on a night when I’m really tired, my goose down pillow feels like a mother’s hug. So yes, my pillow makes me really happy. Enough that my body can relax and I can drift away into restful z’s.
Honey Bunny
You might know, though you probably don’t, that I have a rabbit. She’s a beautiful mini rex named Honey, and she feels like velvet. I love her to the moon and back. Hanging out with my rabbit I just am filled with so happiness that I understand the meaning of the saying, “my cup runneth over” because I feel just like that in my heart.
Books Everywhere
Books make me insanely happy. The smell of them, the feel of the covers, the potential of the story when I read the blurb, the way the story can transport me to incredible places and times. Books have been my life line, and I try to never let a day pass where I am not reading a book.
Mr. Golden Sun
Sunshine makes me so happy. Vitamin D comes from the sunshine and is known to help with mood, and I must say whenever I see a beautiful sunny day I am so glad. Like nothing can bring me down. It’s a little thing, and it might not even really be a thing as everyone feels better on a bright sunny day, but my goodness, it makes me so happy.
Birds
Now, if you’ve been following me on Twitter, you probably know I love birds. I love them as pets and I love them outside in nature. They are absolutely fascinating to watch, and so beautiful. Birds just make me immensely happy and I can’t really explain what. There’s just something about birds for me.
Mom’s Cooking
My mom’s cooking makes me happy. It sound cliche to yearn for your mother’s home cooked meals, but there is something about it that makes me happy, and I think it’s because it brings back my childhood. The dishes I loved, and the dishes I hated. Of course now, I don’t have to fight my parents over eating what I don’t like, but it’s amazing how happy certain dishes of hers make me.
Cuddles and Snuggles
Hugs and cuddles. I have also responded very well to touch, it is likely my love language. And cuddling with my hubby to be or hugging a loved one makes me happy. I feel loved and safe and the peaceful happiness that comes with that is subtle but powerful.
Sweaters?
Now this one really will sound silly but sweaters make me happy. I love sweaters have for years and years! Not in the summer of course, but sweaters in the fall and winter are my thing. I am warm and cozy in sweaters and that makes me happy.

Sparki
Sparkling water is by far the best drink on this planet. I love it so much and a glass of sparkling water is the happiest moment of a day for me. Or moments as I can drink several. In fact, I’ve been accused of not sharing the sparkling water so you know it must my favourite and therefore makes me very happy.
It hasn’t been easy thinking of ten small things that make me really happy, but the last one on my list today is tea. There are many days when all I had keep me going was this hot beverage because even when things are rock bottom bad, tea makes me happy.
Final Thoughts…
This blog post was a lot harder to write than I thought. And I will tell you why. It’s so much harder to pick out the happy things, the happy times, than the ones that aren’t happy, or the things you really hate. Somehow things we have a negative association with stand out more in our minds and memories. Positive associations somehow tend to take a back seat. It shouldn’t be that way, and I think you can agree that most of us would think it’s the other way around, but it’s not. But I’m happy I was able to find ten small things that make me happy. It was certainly an exercise in self reflection.

I’ll have to write a post about her then! She is really the sweetest creature.
