How to Use Crystals in Your Daily Life for Healing

Over the years I have explored and used crystals as part of my self care and to re-connect with myself energetically. I have a small crystal collection of mostly tumbled stones, and for a while I had a little crystal nook in my closet. Now, I have had to house those crystals in a different way, and since I was so busy with Baby J, I stopped taking a moment to use crystals in my daily life.

Becoming out of balance with who you are is easy to do. With work, family responsibilities and all the drudgery of adulting—errands, cooking, cleaning etc—we often forget to take the time to connect with ourselves, to do the things we love. Often, doing the things we love helps us connect with our most inner self. I know that when I’m doing certain things like writing, crocheting or journaling, I feel most centred and focused. Perhaps because all of these activities allow for self expression.

But sometimes, we need a little more to stay energetically balanced and connected and that’s where crystal healing can be helpful.

Cleansing Your Crystals

Before we discuss how to use crystals in your daily life, let’s talk a little about how to care for your crystals. Cleansing your crystals is important because they are busy grounding you, protecting you and transforming energies. All of that negative energy has to go somewhere and so we want to cleanse and recharge crystals to keep them in top form and humming with their own positive vibrations. Check out Tiny Rituals on how to cleanse and charge your crystals. I’ve heard of many ways, and this article outlines just some of them. I perfer using larger stones to cleanse my own crystals, though I have used the salt method as well. I’ve used running water and my own breath (combined with visualization) to cleanse my crystals. It’s also important not to let others handle your crystals so that your bond with them isn’t confused with the energies of others.

I want to state again, as I have in other articles about crystal healing, that crystals aren’t magic. However, I do believe more and more that they connect with us and allow us to clear negativity from our bodies so as to better allow us connect with our most authentic self.

Carry a Crystal With You

One of the simplest ways to use crystals in your daily life is to carry one with you throughout your day. You can carry one in your purse or pocket, or even wear it as a piece of jewellery. Black tourmaline is an especially powerful stone to carry with you as it absorbs negative energies. It soothes anxious feelings as it takes that energy and and turns back into positive energy that soothe the soul. In this way, the stone is transformative. It is also connected to the root chakras, which connect us to our place of self and place here on this earth. Helping you align with this chakra, black tourmaline allows you to speak your truth in a positive, productive way.

Of course, one can carry any crystal they feel a connection to. Amethyst is very powerful and popular among those who use crystals in their daily life.

Whenever you need a moment, simply pull out your crystal and focus on the feel of it, it’s colour, and allow yourself to be re-centred. You can also remind yourself of the intention you are working towards or ask for the crystal to help you release anxiety, anger, self doubt etc.

Place Crystals Strategically in Your Home

We all want a living space that feels safe and comforting. Crystals can be used to do just that simply by be placed intentionally in your home. For instance, amethyst, which is known to be calming, can be placed by your bed to help with sleeping disturbances. Or just to create a relaxing environment. Some people use crystals near the entryway to protect the home from negative energies or to help create a sense of warmth and welcome. You might even place certain crystals near your cookbooks in the kitchen to help you with maintaining creativity and warmth in the kitchen, the room where family often gathers.

Use Your Crystal While You Meditate

Many of us have difficulty with meditation. I know I do. But I have to say, there is something extremely soothing and powerful about sitting down, even for a few minutes, holding a crystal in your hand and just breathing. I can often feel the energy of the crystal around and even in me. So try meditating with your crystal. Set an intention, focus on it and trust that your crystal is sponging up that intention.

Use Crystals at Work Too

Now, crystal healing can be practiced relatively discreetly at work as well. Many people talk about working in stressful and even toxic work places. Sometimes the demands of the work are so unrealistic and the people you work with so toxic that work becomes a place of anxiety that bleeds into your day to day life. This has happened to me. Will crystals magically change your coworkers from jerks to Mary Poppins? Likely not, but they can help protect you from those nasty energies. You can place rose quartz in a desk drawer to promote a sense of peace and tranquillity. It can even help with helping form connections with others at work. Blue lace agate can help you with communicating with others in a clear way and also help you feel less self doubt and stress. Alternatively, Tiger’s eye will help you stand up for yourself as it balances the root chakra.

You can also use crystals to help you be more productive at work as well. Green aventurine is a great crystal for decision making and leadership (which might help in getting that promotion you want) but it’s also associated with good luck and opportunity–so why not take advantage of its powerful energy?

Final Thoughts

Of late, I’ve been thinking more about how I can tune into my own energy and harness it to bring about change in my life. I have had a reiki healing experience, am exploring how to embrace my menstrual cycle in a natural, holistic way, and taking more time to be quiet on my own—in small moments. I believe that the long break I took from blogging this year, where I was only posting when I felt like it really, and the work I’ve been doing lately on embracing myself on a deeper level is beginning to inspire me more and more. Allowing myself to be a mom, to lean into that change has helped me center myself, though for a while, I did feel a little lost. Using my crystals of late has given me more clarity of thought. The universe is vast and the energies in it mysterious. But I think we can connect with our inner most selves by simply being and energy work (with crystals) has helped just that.

Today has been a wonderful, quiet day—after all the cleaning was done that is. I cherish quiet days. It’s nice to just melt into them and enjoy the sense of peace that comes with them. I love to read, or crochet on quiet days, or watch the baby as he plays. I really want to see green things and flowers again. We had a mild winter until March hit, then snow and wind and rain. I know it’ll be a while till I see green and springs blooms, but who says I can’t indulge in spring like things? Or delight in the longer days? It’s spring in my mind today. When life gets too blah, your imagination can really lift your spirits! Yesterday I ran errands and did some housework but I also got on me time and got my nails done. I’ve been doing more light, neutral shades lately. They just feel more me and more elegant. But if I’m in the mood, I splash into colour too! It’s all about just being myself. Because it’s okay to just be me ☺️ #tidbitsofcare #personalgrowth #selflove #selflovemoments #blogger #lifestyleblogging #bloggers #selfcareblog #bloggerlife #bloggerstyle
