The Amazing Self Care Properties of Citrine

I love crystals and think that they are great for self care, and I have a small horde of a collection of many lovely crystals. I thought it would be both fun and informative, since I do believe crystals are good for self care, to begin sharing of my crystal knowledge with you by sharing my collection with you. Therefore, you are in for a series about which crystals are in my collection, and some geological info and of course, the healing properties of each crystal. Today, I want to chat with you about a crystal that has excellent self care properties: citrine. I have about three different citrine crystals, one is a tumbled piece and two are raw pieces.

What is Citrine?

Citrine is a form of quartz, and is yellow to yellow-brown in colour. It is rare in nature, and much of the citrine you find on the market is the result of heat treated amethyst. It’s actually a trace of iron that provides the yellow-brownish colour. I recently found a raw sample of citrine that is of a lovely yellow-brownish colour and you can see a band of amethyst underneath it, indicating that the specimen is naturally occurring. It’s quickly become one of my favourite pieces. I have a couple of pieces of jewelry with citrine, and the gem stone quality is lovely to behold as well, and I wasn’t surprised to learn it’s a popular and often bought gemstone.

Healing Properties of Citrine

Some words that describe the healing–or self care properties of citrine are: happiness, protection, warmth, confidence, and creativity. It is a stone that encourages joy, self-esteem and self-confidence as well as releases negative traits such as depression and fears. A powerful crystal, it’s said to be emotionally balancing. I love citrine because it’s a stone of energy, and helps you embrace positivity and optimism. Also, who could resist is’s sunny colour? It is any wonder then that this crystal is said to harness the energy of the sun? Not at all.

How to Use Citrine for Self Care

So how we can best make use of the self care properties of citrine? The best way to use this crystal to bring about happiness is to wear it, or bring into your space or even carry it. Wearing citrine in the form of jewelry is easy and doesn’t mean you need to head out to a jewelry stone. You can wear lower quality citrine in the form of pendants or bracelets, or higher quality citrine gems in gold pieces. It’s totally up to you. Wearing the crystal allows you to tap into the energy of the stone throughout the day, which is uplifting and powerful. This is just one to tap into the self care properties of citrine. You can also carry this sunny, happy stone in your pocket or purse. This also allows you to bring positive energy with you and you can always take out the crystal and hold it in your hand if you are feeling down. Or, you could simply place a piece of citrine in your space–on your desk or by your bed on a nightstand. This reminds you of its happy and positive energy, and it will fill up that space with positive energy.

How I Use Citrine

I have worn citrine in the form of jewelry–first as a causal necklace with a tumbled piece of this sunny stone. Later, I have also worn a lovely citrine and silver Art Deco ring. I definitely feel happier whenever I look at the ring, so I honestly believe that wearing this crystal is the way to go. Personally, I don’t like tucking crystals into my pockets although I have done in the past. I find wearing them much more powerful and it’s definitely the way to go to reap the benefits. However, lately I am also finding that the self care properties of citrine are equally as powerful by having this crystal in my office space. I love having my raw cluster piece, the newest piece I’ve acquired, sitting on my desk while I work. So I would definitely recommend bringing in a piece of citrine into your workspace.

In Conclusion…

I am so excited I was able to share my love of this crystal with you today! I love the natural peace and joy crystals bring into the home, and knowing that they have these amazing healing properties is a bonus and allows me to take some quiet time to myself–and a crystal–when I’m feeling off kilter. I hope that you take some time to check out my Etsy crystal shop, JG Gems. I only opened the shop a few months ago and haven’t had a ton of time to devote to it but I’d love to hear your thoughts on some of the pieces I am offering–and a sale or two wouldn’t hurt! Hope you love this series xo.

I really want to see green things and flowers again. We had a mild winter until March hit, then snow and wind and rain.
