Day 10 of the 30 Writing Challenge
For someone who is nearly forty, I have not travelled a ton. In my younger years, I was afraid to travel alone. And having a very small circle of friends at that time, I had no one with travel with so I simply didn’t travel. Gosh, my twenties were so boring. But I have been a few places so I’ll let you know where before jumping into my bucket list.
I have been to Italy, Sicily actually, to visit family. That was a family trip and was way back in the early 90s. I have also visited Quebec City, Calgary (which was an amazing trip) and I have been to Cuba. Which was nice, but not as tropical as I’d have liked it to be, and I have also been to Scotland. Which I would totally visit again! The last vacation I took was to Mexico, on the Mayan Rivera, and I did get see the Mayan ruins and step pyramids.
North American List
In North America, I’d love to visit the maratime provinces here in Canada, and especially explore the Cabot Trial. I’d also like to make my way into New England and see Salem. I’m also partial to the idea of going out to visit Victoria, in British Columbia.
My hubby to be really is partial to visiting a lot of places in the US, but I am not to be honest. I mean, the idea of seeing the Grand Canyon is cool, but it is not a bucket list location for me. And this is a bucket list post so, the Grand Canyon doesn’t make the list. But Hawaii does. I would love to go to Hawaii, and we also considered it for our honeymoon. Thanks Covid-19.
European List
This list is going to be much bigger! On the top of my list is Italy. I really want to go Rome. I know it’s a busy, tourist locale but it’s Rome! The art, the history. In fact, before Covid hit we were seriously considering Rome for our honeymoon. Not anymore. I would also love to go back to my dad’s home town, which is a little island off the coast of Sicily called Favignana. I was there back in the 90s on the family trip we took, but I’d love to go back and really enjoy the beaches and tour the town now that I’m adult.
I am also dying to see Iceland. It just sounds like another world in a lot of ways, and I think it would be a beautiful and fascinating place to visit.
And big on this list is the UK. I want to visit all of the UK. Meaning, I want to go to London, tour Scotland again, and tour Ireland. I’m fascinated with British history, and my imagination is captured by castles. Plus, as green as Canada there, the green in Scotland was so beautiful. So I love the idea of travelling around in such lush lands.
Asia
Asia is a bit too adventurous for me. I don’t know if I could handle the heat, and as someone who suffers from IBS and has dietary restrictions, I’m not sure it’s the best place for me to travel to, especially because I do have a genetic condition which requires me to be on a low protein diet as well. However, I would like to see Japan. But to be quite honest, it’s a lot lower on the list than the other countries and cities listed above.
And that is it….
I know, I know, what about South America? Australia? And other exotic locations? I mean, there are some places I would travel to for sure but they just are not on the list of must see locations. Maybe if I had knocked all of the above locations off my bucket list, I would start to think about other places like Brazil or Egypt. But for now, I’m keeping the list realistic.
Where in the world have you been? Where would you go? Let me know in the comments!
I would most certainly go to any of these places. Would definitely reconsider the US though, every state is so different and has its own hidden gems!
There are probably lovely places in the States, but first Europe!!
oooh you’ll love Ireland (i may be a tab biased though!) Iceland is top of my list s well and while I’ve been to Italy a number of times I haven’t actually made it to Rome!
I am so so itching to go to all of these places. Sigh.
You must visit us here in B.C. – Victoria is just one of the beautiful cities by the Pacific. I miss travelling too and hope to get to see more of the places on my travel bucket list once is safe to do so.
I plan too! Thanks for checking out my blog.
Ireland for sure!! Ireland is my dream vacation spot, I’m manifesting that I’ll get to go someday! I’ve always wanted to visit Rome as well, such a beautiful place. As someone who lives in the US, if I would suggest any place to visit I’m gonna be biased and suggest Chicago because it’s my favorite city but it has a grand list of fun things to do and see and eat! Thank you for sharing!
I really want to see Ireland! I love food so maybe Chicago one day.
Such a great list! Hawaii is on my list and my husband and I had planned a trip there this year. Sadly that won’t be happening. Thanks COVID-19 indeed!
I hear you Michelle! We are trying to plan a within country honeymoon and it’s just not the same as taking a big trip overseas.
