5 Habits to Cut Out of Your Life Now

Posted on July 12, 2020August 13, 2020 by Giulia

Day 7 of the 30 Day Writing Challenge

There are things we do out of habit and routine. Such as put the milk back in the fridge right away after pouring a glass. But some of our habits are actually decreasing our productivity and happiness. Like scrolling through social media all of the time. I think we’d all be shocked and embarrassed to realize exactly how much we spend staring at our phones.

So today I’m sharing with you some habits you need to cut our of your life right now.

Put Down that Dang Phone!

I’m so guilty of this. I’m always on my phone scrolling through Facebook, Instagram and checking out Etsy shops. I don’t even know why I do that because none of it very interesting. I guess I just caught up in articles that are of interest (like the government’s covid plan) and then get sucked into other things like why Harry and Meghan will never make it. So I get this is a hard one.

Here’s my plan to cut this out: check social media at a designated time. Otherwise, only use phone for phone calls, texting, google searches. This sounds restrictive. But I plan to give this a try for two weeks and see how it goes.

Not Having a Morning/Bedtime Routine

Not having a routine for your morning is going to set up for you for rushed mornings, forgotten items and your day is likely going to feel unfocused and stressful as a result. Being sure to have a routine makes it easier to get out the house and start your day calmly. And having a bedtime routine ensures you get a great night’s sleep.

Quit the Couch Potato-ing

Hey, I’m not saying you don’t deserve yourNetflix binge day cuz we all do. But if you are spending hours in front of the TV every night after work, you need to shake it up. It’s not good to sedentary all of the time, and you are not doing your mental health any good either. Try switching it up by taking a walk, calling a friend, doing some yoga or indulging in a hot bath or devoting time to a hobby instead.

Grabbing Lunch on the Go

Grabbing lunch on the go is sometimes easier than packing a lunch. But, it gets expensive and you don’t always have healthy options which forces us to grab the fast food. As yummy as that is, it’s hurting both our pocketbooks and our waistlines while not really providing nutrients. Instead, try some easy lunch ideas and save your lunches out for maybe once a week with a friend.

Bringing Work Home

Tell me again why exactly you are spending your time (unpaid) working after you come home from work. I know there are never enough hours in a day, but this is a terrible habit people have. Think about your work day. Are you wasting time in any way? Then maybe it’s time to buckle down at work. Or, if you are simply being asked to do too much, it might be time to speak up. And if it’s just things that need to get done…well, could you maybe do it at work? Because at the end of the day, your life is not your job. And when you are gone from that job, no one will remember or care that you gave you your time for that job. So don’t make this a habit.

These are just some habits we get into that aren’t helping us become people, or helping us live happier lives. Changing these little things can greatly increase our happiness and mindset and help us be more productive.

I used to be so bad with my phone! I found the forest app to be really helpful in getting me to put it down more though x

I love having a good morning routine! It means I never remember a step like brushing my teeth or grabbing my oyster card! It’ll be a bit easier when I’m back in the office though!

I’ve gotten so used to my at home routine that switching back to a gain into work routine will be an adjustment now LOL But yes, routines are so important.
