Intriguing Books on My To Buy List

There are just some books I have to have, and are on my books to buy list. Bookworms like me understand this. I know books take up room–it’s more minimalistic to get e-books, and I like ebooks too, but there is something about the real thing. The feel of it, the smell of the book, the COVER. Covers are everything. So I continue to buy books and likely will always continue to buy books.

Now, I could buy several books in one go and be in heaven, but I have been trying to be good and not splurge too much on non essentials like make up, books, jewelry, yarn crystals–you know, things I love. I’m having a hard time okay? It’s been hard not buying every shiny bauble I see on Etsy, or squishy merino yarn for forty-five dollars a skein, and other things that just call out buy me, buy me.

But there are some buy that are definitely making it onto a to buy list. As in, I will buy them. Just not right now. But soon…ish.

Beauty Among Ruins by J’nell Ciesielski

Set during World War I, this novel sounds right up my alley. I love history, and always have. The premise of this novel in a nutshell is:

In Ciesielski’s latest sweeping romance, an American heiress finds herself in Scotland amid the fallout of the Great War, and a wounded Scottish laird comes face-to-face with his past and a woman he never could have expected.–from Goodreads

There is more to the blurb, but this gives you a good idea of what the novel is about and honestly, history, mystery and romance in one book? I can’t say no. The author is unknown to me, but I’m always willing to take a gamble when it comes to my book purchases. So this book is on my to buy list because…it sparks the imagination.

In a Dark, Dark Wood by Ruth Ware

I really enjoy Ruth Ware’s novels. They are not my typical kind of read, or weren’t, when I first picked up this author, but I really am into her novels now and this one sounds especially spooky. I was actually going to buy this in March, before Ontario went into another stay at home order, but the bookstore was out of stock. However, I will certainly be buying this at some point. The premise is so eerie:

Nora hasn’t seen Clare for ten years. Not since Nora walked out of school one day and never went back. 

There was a dark, dark house.

Until, out of the blue, an invitation to Clare’s hen do arrives. Is this a chance for Nora to finally put her past behind her?

Katherine Parr, The Sixth Wife by Alison Weir

Last in the Six Tudor Queens series, I cannot wait to read this book. I am obsessed with Tudor history and historical fiction, and each of these books has been a stunning portrayal of the queens of Henry VIII. I own all of the other novels, so this will complete the series and I’m super excited about it! I just devour these books. The premise is certainly promising:

The Widow of Pale Harbor by Hester Fox

When I was in hospital, I read The Witch of Willow Hall by this author, and I immediately knew that if she had written more books, then I would need to read those books. I mean, the book was incredible! Just the right blend of what goes bump in the night and romance. And the premise for The Widow of Pale Harbor sounds sooo promising–I honestly don’t know how long I can hold out on buying this! I might have to move it to the top of the to buy list.

Maine, 1846. Gideon Stone is desperate to escape the ghosts that haunt him in Massachusetts after his wife’s death, so he moves to Pale Harbor, Maine, where there is a vacancy for a new minister. Those are ones I want to get ASAP. Honestly, I need them in my hands. But, it’s kind of fun to see how long I can hold out for and in the mean time, I do have a lot of books to read at home right now. And I mean, a lot.
