5 Holiday Books to Gift This Christmas

Posted on December 2, 2020November 26, 2020 by Giulia

As an avid reader, I had to include a post about books for this Christmas season. There are so many amazing novels out there for us to enjoy and sometimes the holidays are just so busy that we forget to do something as soothing and fun as reading. We can get too caught up in gift buying, parties and Secret Santas to really enjoy the simple things about the holiday season, like Christmas lights and carols and relaxation.

Here are some books I think would be a big hit this holiday season.

A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens

I’m kicking it off with a classic. Who doesn’t know the tale of old Scrooge and his miserly ways? This is a story that brings many of us back to our childhoods, and is a novel worth reading. I think this is an especially nice book to share with the younger generation who perhaps didn’t grow up seeing this movie every Christmas, or with anyone really who likes to read.

The Ickabog, By J.K Rowling

I know Ms. Rowling isn’t winning popularity contests right now, but there is no denying that she is a gifted storyteller. This novel was recently published and while I have not read all of it yet, it certainly captures the imagination. Perfect for the Harry Potter fan, or any lover of fairy tales, this will likely be a much loved gift by many.

NOrthanger Abbey by Jane Austen

So this is another classic, I know but it’s definitely a nice one to include on this list because it’s got a bit of a Gothic feel to it while being a bit comedic at the same time, while being thought provoking all at the same time. I think that if you have been wanting to delve into the classics and have some down time at Christmas that this makes for a fun, lighter read.

Twelve Days of Christmas by Debbie Macomber

I read this several Christmas’ ago, and it stands out in my mind as everything a Christmas novel should be. It had a Scrooge like character, a strong heroine and a wonderful reminder for us as well, and Christmas is often the time we reflect on the kind of person we want to be, and on our growth and goals. It’s fun, easy reading and will be sure to leave you filled with warmth and the feel goods at the end of the novel.

The Winter King by C.L Wilson

All right, if you want some fantasy or romance, this is definitely the book for you this holiday season. The characters are strong, the setting is fantastic (literally) and the romance sizzles. This is the sort of novel that sweeps you away into a fictional world that is all absorbing and utterly riveting. I can honestly say this is one of my all time favourite romance reads because there is so much more than just the relationship in this novel that is compelling.

Final Thoughts

I hope that something on this reading list sparks your curiosity or sounds just right for someone on your gift list. I wanted to include some novels that aren’t just holiday reads that inspire images of gingerbread men and holiday cheer, but that also just made for great reading at any time of year.

Have you read any of these books? Do any of them sound interesting to you? Share in the comments below.

I love classics and I’ve read quite a few by Jane Austen but I’ve never read Northanger Abbey so that’s definitely one for this festive season. A Christmas Carol reminds me so much of childhood! x

I love Jane Austen, and although Northanger Abbey isn’t one of her more popular books, as an earlier work, it certainly is a fun and informative read!
