Healthy Breakfast Ideas

Posted on July 28, 2020July 28, 2020 by Giulia

Day 18 of the 30 Day Writing Challenge

A while back, I did healthy lunch ideas post and I thought, why not share some healthy breakfast ideas? Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. So they say. I do believe that actually, and I never skip breakfast. I do however, skip lunch, but I am trying to work on that.

Smoothies

I used to do a smoothie every morning for a while, but I got so sick of it. It was the recipe I tried of more than anything, but if you can have a smoothie it is a great way to start the day as you can pack in the protein and have it on the go if you have too. Plus, if you’re not super crazy about eating in the morning, it’s a great way to get in the meal without feeling grossed out. And, it can taste more like a dessert without being one if you include fruit.

Eggs and Toast

I really do think is a healthy, easy go to for a lot of people. And there is nothing wrong with eating some carbs first thing in the morning as long as you getting in your protein too. Whether you have your eggs over easy or scrambled, having them with a slice of good bread (I’d recommend rye or sourdough as the healthiest) you’re sure to be putting healthy nutrients into your body with little effort.

Oatmeal and Hemp Seeds

Now, you might think this is a heavy carb meal but oatmeal is a good breakfast choice if you hold the sugar. Try salt instead. It is rich in fiber, keeps you full and eases the insulin response in your body so it’s not the same as having a bowl of your favourite cereal. So don’t get the flavoured packets of oatmeal, but rather some plain steel cut or rolled oats. Add a bit of salt to make it less bland and to get in extra protein, mix in some hemp seeds.

Breakfast Breads

I’m not thinking banana bread here, though that is yummy. I’m thinking more of bread that is made using healthy ingredients like almond flour, coconut oil, eggs and some nuts or seeds. Try googling paleo breads to find a recipe like this. The reason I like this kind of breakfast bread is because it’s filling, not too high in carbs and tastes really good. Plus, you top it with your favourite nut butter and make it really yummy.

Chia Pudding

I only tried this once and I really was in love, and so I totally want to start doing this again. Chia puddings are made with chia seeds and milk or milk alternatives like almond or soy milk. That’s a pretty basic recipe, but then you can always spice it up by adding fruit, nut butters or nuts and seeds. The thing I most enjoyed was the texture was like pudding, but better.

Breakfast Cookies

No, I don’t mean chocolate chip with milk. You’re not eight anymore after all. What I do mean, is a cookie batch made with rolled oats, mashed bananas, sunflower seeds and some kind of healthy sugar like coconut sugar. Again, if you google you’ll likely find many a healthy cookie or bar recipe using ingredients like this, and they are both healthy, easy to make and great for days when you have eat breakfast on the go. Plus, they feel like a treat.

Final thoughts …

I am going to be super honest and say that I really need to clean my diet. It’s gotten out of hand and and cake tasting for my wedding and bridal shower goodies are making that diet clean up hard right now. But I do intend to start making my breakfast bread again, and even the chia pudding because why am I depriving myself of that yummy goodness? I can’t say. And if we take a bit of time on a weeknight, or weekend to prep some of this, it means time saved on week day mornings.

I have eggs every morning for breakfast which suits me really well as I don’t like to eat carbs before a workout!
