8 Must Haves For Work

Posted on July 27, 2020July 27, 2020 by Giulia

Day 17 of the 30 Day Writing Challenge

With many more of us returning to work, I thought it might be fun to start thinking about the things we must have when we head out the door in the morning. There are just certain things you need to make your day at work go smoothly. And I find without some of those things, I find that my day always goes slightly awry.

So this is a round up post of all the things I feel I must have to have a happy, healthy and productive day at work.

tea

I am not leaving the house without my tea cannister in hand. I need my tea, especially in the winter time. It’s so comforting to get to work and settle in and then have that first sip of warm, comforting tea sweetened with honey. Mmmm. I just need my tea.

Comfy Shoes

This is huge for me. I used to wear heels to work, and I loved rocking them. Plus, being only five foot, one inch, it gave me added height. But, after my experience with living with plantar fasciitis, I simply cannot wear heels or hard soled shoes anymore. Comfy shoes are a must have for me. I prefer flats and shoes with arch support, so I tend to buy shoes from Walking on a Cloud, and while twenty years ago you would not have caught me dead in Brikenstocks, they are now my summer go to sandal.

There are certain things we need to have with us while we at work. These items make our day go more productive and less stressful.

Packed Lunch

I really have better days at work if I have a packed lunch. I don’t always get an hour for lunch, so having something already made makes the lunch hour less stressful if I don’t have to dash out and grab food and then gobble it down before starting my afternoon. Plus, I eat healthier lunches if I pack them at home.

Warm Outwear

I mean, I live in Canada. It’s cold! I do not leave the house without my outwear. I look like I’m going hiking instead of to work, but I don’t care. I need my hat, scarf, winter boots, mitts and my big warm coat. With the fur hood. I am not going to have a happy day if I am cold and sometimes the building where I work takes a while to warm up. If I’m already cold from outside, I might spend hours feeling cold inside and that makes me really miserable.

Make Up

I’m not leaving the house without my make up on. I don’t wear a ton, but I have to wear some to work. I hate looking like I just rolled out of bed, bare faced and exhausted. And that is how I feel if I don’t wear a bit of make up. My must haves are a bit of tinted mostiuizer, brow powder, mascara and some lip gloss. Just so I look and feel more awake. There are days I get more dolled up and put on eyeshadow, but those are becoming fewer and farther between.

Smart Phone

So one day I was running late and I was already in the care when I realized I didn’t have the phone. I thought, no biggie, I can live one day at work without my phone. Wrong! I needed a password at work, but didn’t have my phone. I ended up guessing at the password, getting locked out, and basically my day went to sh*t because I didn’t have my phone. I have become far more reliant on my phone than I ever thought I could be.

Sunglasses

I have poor vision. I’ve worn glasses since I was ten years old, and my eyes become progressively worse over my teen years and into my early twenties. So I have no choice but to wear glasses or contacts and I always make sure to have sunglasses (prescription or otherwise) with me summer or winter as the sunlight can really bother my eyes. If I forget my sunglasses, I have a hard driving so they are a must have.

Lip Balm

I need lip balm. I talk a lot at work, and with that comes the occasional lip lick and between that and the elements of nature (sun and wind) your lips tend to start getting a little chapped. So I always make sure to have a beeswax based lip balm with me. Sometimes I put it on under my lip gloss just to keep my lips healthy.

What are some things you need to have to have a great day at work? Let me know in the comments below.

So many essentials here. The things I always check for before I leave are lip balm, hand cream and make sure I have my phone at least 5 times before I actually leave πŸ˜‚. Also far too reliant on it than I care to admit x

Hand cream is definitely important too!

I always carry lip-balm with me, since my lips tend to dry out otherwise and that is no fun!
I hear you on tea, especially herbal tea sweetened with honey. A sip of that cold is so refreshing in the summertime and a sip of something hot in the winter is perfect too. πŸ™‚

Definitely tea and my phone. Make up I can go without if I’ve had a good night’s sleep, and I don’t possess any uncomfortable shoes so I think that’s all my boxes ticked. Oh wait, a good book for lunch time! Great ideas, Giulia πŸ™‚ Lisa

As much as I love to read, I can’t read at lunch LOL too many distractions.
