Goal Setting for 2020

Posted on April 23, 2020April 23, 2020 by Giulia

I did not enter 2020 having any big goals. My only goals were to begin this blog, as Tidbits of Care had been germinating in my mind, and to really dive into wedding planning as I’m getting married in August. Those, I thought are goals enough.

And then, it was March. And we went all into lockdown. My wedding plans are in limbo as I cannot order cake, flowers or prepare invitations when I don’t know when these restrictions will be lifted. I had started planning my shower with my maid of honour, that too is on hold. My wedding might not be…as I envisioned.

There is a part of me that is truly upset about this. I will be 40 years old in July, my husband to be and I have waited several years to take this step. We don’t want to wait any longer. And I want the wedding that I want. Like all brides do. But what can I do? I have no control over this virus, or the lockdowns. So I’ve tried to hope, and accept and I’ve thrown myself into this blog. And as time has passed, there are some small goals I thought I could commit myself too in order to uplift myself, stay focused and continue to make my home into my perfect space of rest and relaxation.

Growing Edible Plants Indoors

This is the first goal I’ve committed myself to. I got the idea from another blogger and my fiance loves it too. We hope to plant some herbs like basil, maybe some cherry tomatoes and I am hoping to grow some pansies. The herbs will season our food, the pansies I hope to freeze into ice cubes and add to a summer drink. Plus, I’ve always loved pansies.

I have tried growing herbs indoors before–remember, I live in a condo. But I had have not had any luck. This time, I’m going to start with a plant rather than seeds, I am going to make sure they get good air circulation (something I didn’t do before) and be more conscious about how much sunlight they are getting. We might fail entirely, but then again, we might not and how cool would that be?

I’ve started by buying some pots. I have the soil already, so that’s a plus. Now it’s a matter of buying the plants. It’s a little early here in Canada for gardening, but some plants are starting to be sold at the grocery stores. I’m going to keep my eyes out next time I’m out.

Begin Consistently Journalling

I wrote before about journalling for self care, and I said I hadn’t been journalling a lot for many years. So I made it a goal that day to get back into journalling. I haven’t been journalling every day, but I am far more consistent than I was and I plan to continue to be consistent, hopefully re-acquiring the habit of journalling almost every day.

Journalling has proved as enjoyable as I remember, though I find that I am doing it in a new way. I’m sometimes adding in art, or large script, and it’s experimental for me as I never did this in the past–at least, not that I can recall. It’s another form of self expression that I’m in the embryonic stages of exploring so I don’t know yet what this means for my journalling habits, or my self care.

Learn Tunisian Crochet

I’m an advanced crocheter, or at least, intermediate plus in my ability. But I do not know Tunisian crochet, which is sometimes considered a cross between crocheting and knitting. I intend to learn. I have tons of yarn, so it seems it is time to simply start with some online tutorials and my crochet hook. It’s time to quit putting it off and just get to it already. Especially since I do need to up my crochet game since lately I am feeling a bit less engaged by crochet than I used to feel about this hobby.

Crafting is my favourite form of self care. I love playing with colour, and crafting has a lot of room to play with colour, and yarn is just…well, there’s just something about yarn.

And those my friends, are my are 2020 goals! It’s late in the year to be setting these goals, but I think I can do these do easily enough, especially if we remain in isolation. I hope that these restrictions are lifted soon, that we get back to something like normal if we can’t return immediately to our pre COVID-19 habits and routines, but if we do remain safe at home instead, well I have some goals to work towards and that is a good thing.

Do you have any goals you want to work on while we are in isolation? Let me know in the comments. Follow me @tidbitsofcare and be sure to subscribe to the blog to never miss a post.

I hope so too! It’s really sad for us but we are trying to look on the bright side too.

I’ve really been focusing on education where I can while in self isolation. I’m trying to take advantage of as many free online courses as I can handle around the kiddos.

Sorry to hear about your wedding! It sucks how Covid-19 is just stopping everything like this. You have some great goals! I’m not trying to grow any plants, but I do want to try my hand at putting some real plants in my office and see how I do with taking care of them. Fingers crossed I can keep them alive!

Plants can be hard but then sometimes they do so well so let’s keep our fingers crossed.

Sometimes the smallest goals mean the most.
I love that you are growing edible plants indoors and taking up journaling; I do not quite journal in the traditional sense, but writing always helps me organize my thoughts and feelings.
I do hope you have an amazing wedding day, despite past plans having been thrown a limbo.

I mostly journal by doodling in the margins and writing about my day on the actual page. Sometimes the doodles say more to me a year later then the actual writing!

I’m starting to doodle a bit myself! That is really neat.
