Day 28 of the 30 Day Writing Challenge

This is the last wedding post I am going to post before I get married because my wedding is in fourteen days. Which is surreal!! But lately my life has been overtaken by wedding planning and it hasn’t been easy.

Wedding planning is never easy. I know that. But I ran into some unexpected complications. The first, and biggest one being Covid-19. But these last few weeks have brought me some other challenges unrelated to the pandemic, and while they are dealt with now, but there were times I wondered exactly whose wedding my wedding was anyway. If you’ve ever planned a wedding, you have an inkling of what I mean.

But I am getting a wee bit off topic, so I’ll get back on track and move this post along. One of the challenges presented by the pandemic is that I am not allowed a guest book due to the fact that everyone would be touching the book and could be infected through a surface contact. While I personally think the chances of anyone contracting any virus from a surface contact is small, it was in the government guidelines so there is nothing I can do about that.

But I was Already In Love with My Guest Book

Having a guest book is really important to me. It is a written record of the people that were there on day I committed myself to my husband. Our love, and that commitment is very important, and so the guest book is important. I was saddened that I could not have this written record. However, after some discussion, the venue said it would be fine to provide cards for guests to write a message on as an alternative.

I had bought a guest book already, and it sits next to me as I type this post. It’s perfect–soft pleather cover, a small size, gold pen included. And the pages are laid out not only for signatures, but for more personal messages and I love that about this guest book. But, I can’t use it.

The guest book I cannot have.

So I decided to create my own wedding guest book alternative based upon this book. I used Google slides to do this, and after several attempts, I was able to create what I think is as close to perfect as I can get in this printable. It’s likely flawed, I’ve never created a printable before. But, I am rather proud of what I have created.

How I am Using This Wedding Guest Book Alternative

I plan to place the cut out cards in a basket on each table during the cocktail hour. Which, rather untraditionally thanks to the pandemic, will require guests to be seated. I am also going to provide pens in the basket, and then guests can fill out the cards at the table. Before dinner, the baskets will be collected. Later, once I am back from my honeymoon, I plan to assemble the cards in a book. So in the end, I have the written record that is so important to me.

I still have things I need to get done before the big day. We need to print the seating chart for guests, I have to order the cake still (yikes!) and we need to order and pick up and assemble our wedding favours. Those are just the ones that come to mind, but I know there is more. I am ready to tackle these tasks and happy that we are soon starting our married life together.
