Thrilling Books I Want to Read this Autumn

Posted on September 14, 2022September 13, 2022 by Giulia

Reading thrilling books in the fall is one of my favourite things to do in the fall months. Reading is such a huge part of who I am and diving into books since the year started has been both challening and a little disappointing. I really started the year wanting to read a lot of books, but the year started rough for me when it came to reading as I started it with two reads I didn’t find that enjoyable. And, as Baby J got older, my reading time became more limited and somehow several months have passed with me reading very little. Prehaps I was too ambitious…

But fall is a great time of year to read (I think) as all the fun beach days and BBQs start to wind down. So I am hoping that this fall I’ll be able to read several novels. My plans for reading were maybe unrealistic as a mom of a crawling baby who is now nearly thirteen months, so hopefully these plans are more acheievable.

Warning, creepy books ahead—when I say I want to read thrilling books this fall, I mean thrilling!

Quiet in Her Bones by Nalini Singh

This is a book I have to read for a book club, but by strange coincidence, it was one I wanted to read anyway and already had on my shelf. It sounds like a perfect read for fall time—a mystery thriller—so I’m really excited to crack open this book (figuratively speaking, I never crack spines) and dive in.

The Eye of The World by Robert Jordan

Why am I including this brick of a book in this list? Because I’ve already started it and half way through. The first book in the Wheel of Time series (which you may have seen on Prime) really cleared up a lot of questions the show left me with and gave me a far deeper understanding of what the heck what happening as well. I don’t think I’ll be able to finish this book this fall, but making some serious headway would make me happy.

The Firekeeper’s Daughter by Angeline Boulley

I keep meaning to pick this up but I really want to read this before the year is done so I’m excited to be committing to this book this fall. It’s a thriller, but also explores the experiences of Indigenous people. Having not read a ton of literature by Indigenous authors, I thought it could make for fascinating reading.

Gallant by V.E Schwab

I have never read anything by this author, but I have heard her praised a lot. Gallant sounds like a perfect read for spooky season, and I have it on my Aubile so I think I will be reading this soon. I mean, hostile family, ghouls in the hall, some sinister creatures—I love this kind of novel in the fall time.

Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen

I know, Austen might seem like more of a spring read than fall, however, this particular novel is a Gothic romance of a sort and so, it fits the criteria of a thrilling fall read. At least, for me. It’s been an age since I read this particular Austen novel, and it truly deserves reading again so I am going to do exactly that.

Final Thoughts

Hopefully you found a thrilling book or two to add to your own reading list! I really do like reading scary-ish sort of books and fall is a great time to read spooky and thrilling books in my opinion.

Are you looking forward to reading something spooky or thrilling soon? Share in the comments!
