Am I Meeting My Goals for Self Care and Growth?

Posted on March 29, 2021March 23, 2025 by Giulia

Do you have goals for 2021? Earlier this year, I wrote about self care and personal goal setting. We are nearly into the fourth month of the year, and I thought it was time that I checked in with myself and evaluated how I am doing in meeting those goals. I had six goals for the year, and they were all focused on self care, growth and personal development. Today, I am going to share with you the progress I’ve made in meeting those goals.

Reading More Books

One of my goals for 2021 was to read more. I had really stopped reading for days at time in the last couple of years, mostly because I was too stressed to really focus and enjoy books. And this year, I promised myself that I would get back into this hobby as it’s always been a great form of self care for me. And I’m proud to say that I’ve read two to three books each month so far in 2021. So far, I am meeting this goal.

Journalling More Consistently

Journalling used to be something I did daily, sometimes twice a day but that habit is one I fell out of long ago. Getting back into has been my intention for several years, but I never managed it and I decided to try bullet journalling rather than sticking to the way I used to journal in the past. I have been journalling more, but bullet journalling is new to me and I am not always sure what to record. Perhaps I ought record some random thoughts. I guess I’ll find out.

Starting Crochet Projects I’d Been Putting Off

There are a lot of projects I meant to start a year, two years ago. I have the yarn and even a few rows hooked up. But I haven’t returned to those projects as of yet. I have been working instead on projects for my baby as I’m due to give birth in August. I’m working furiously in the evenings because there are four projects I want to complete, and then maybe, if maybe a mom allows, I’ll tackle one of those projects I’ve been putting off. However, even though I am not exactly meeting this goal, I am glad to be crocheting again so I am proud of that.

Staying Committed to my Blog

Another one of my goals in 2021 was to remain committed to this blog. I have been totally committed to this blog since I started this blog, and I’m glad to say that I have redoubled that commitment somehow. I work daily on this blog, for hours, writing posts, improving my SEO on old posts, creating pins, researching and learning. And I will continue to work on this blog even when the baby comes. In fact, I imagine he’ll provide a lot of content!

Becoming Even More Minimal

I likely have not really met this goal as my de-clutteirng journey has reached a bit of a stand still. We are planning a lot of remodels before the baby comes, and I know that will allow me to minimize and organize but in the mean time, I’ve done little in the way of becoming more minimal, other than de-clutter some pet items and removing some items of clothing from my closet. However, this is one of my goals that I am not going to give up. It is just going to take me a little longer. Once we are into the remodelling, I plan to go through my clothes more carefully and see what other accessories and shoes I can do without, as I know I’m housing tons I don’t use.

Getting Back into the Kitchen

This is one of the goals for 2021 that I am working towards meeting. I have started to cook some meals, and am helping out more in the kitchen. But I want to do more, so it’s a work in progress. It’s been hard for me, because while I do like cooking, I have to dream up meals that have lots of protein but are also vegetarian while having a meat loving husband. And sometimes, I just get frustrated and give up. Being indecisive when it comes to meals doesn’t help either. Work in progress, as I said. But in order to meet this goal, I’m going to challenge myself to cook at least two meals a week on my own and help out at least two more.

It sounds like you are doing amazing at meeing your goals.! When I was pregnant, I barely got anything done, mostly because I kept forgetting what I was doing. 🤣 I can’t wait to see all the projects you’ve made for the baby! Thanks for sharing your goals!

It’s great that you’ve been pretty good at keeping up with most of these. And I imagine trying to be more minimal is borderline impossible with a baby on the way. I decided not to set any this year, with the world still being in such a strange place I didn’t want to put too much pressure on anything specific, more keeping myself in check to see how I’m getting on in general for now x

I felt I needed some goals to maintain my mental health, which was really bad in the fall and then early in the new year with my illness. I have no idea how we’ll manage being minimal with a baby but we want to try LOL

The main commitment i have tried to do, and has not been hugely successful is not taking my phone on dog walks. I go for at least two dog walks a day, but always end up responding to work emails on my phone. TO try and help have some downtime, I have been trying to leave my phone at home, but easier said than done. Great post though and well dome.
