12 Magical Dates of Christmas

Posted on December 17, 2021December 17, 2021 by Giulia

Welcome everyone, to my very first guest post blogger, Katie from the Dating Bitch who so kindly agreed to be featured on my blog! Katie writes a lifestyle blog focused on relationships and advice for couples. She also shares personal life lessons and her blog is a lovely little corner of the internet that I often heard to for wellness content.

Katie is also super friendly and hard working, and I love chatting with her on Twitter. So be sure to check out her blog.

Without further ado, here is Katie and her fun ideas for Christmas date ideas.

Christmas is such a magical time of year. It seems like everywhere you go, people are in a cheerier mood– at least, as cheery as they can be in cold weather. And, what’s more, Christmas-time brings an abundance of really fun date ideas for anyone in a relationship. After all, why do you think there are so many cheesy Rom-com’s that take place during the holidays?

So, with that in mind, here are 12 Christmas date ideas you can try out this winter.

1. See the Christmas Lights

From Thanksgiving to mid-January, there are a ton of Christmas light displays that you can visit. You can check out one of those drive-through Winter Wonderland parks, or just drive around some neighborhoods. And, if by chance you live near someone who does one of those over-the-top light displays set to music? Oh, man! You’re in for a real treat.

2. Go Christmas Shopping for Loved Ones Together

Personally, I get my Christmas shopping done early every year – usually by the first week of
December. But there are plenty of people who like to go the day before Christmas. So, if that’s how you do your shopping, you can make it way less stressful by going with your partner. Or, if you’re like me and you’ve got it done, you can always go shopping anyway just in case you find a little something extra to gift to your loved ones. Having your partner there to browse the aisles with you is a great way to get to know more about them and their family.

3. Watch a Christmas Movie

Is there anything better than a Christmas Rom-com? Even if they’re cheesy and utterly
unrealistic, Christmas movies always make you feel good. Or, at the very least, the two of you can make fun of it together. Love, Hard is a new Netflix Christmas movie out this year that I’d highly recommend. Yes, it is a bit corny, but it’s cute and well-acted and very enjoyable. You could also opt for a classic and watch a movie like Elf or Home Alone.

4. See The Nutcracker Together

If you’ve never been to the ballet before, The Nutcracker is a great place to start. It’s one of the most famous ballets out there. It’s beautiful to watch and filled with holiday cheer.

5. Bake Christmas Cookies

This year, I didn’t bake any cookies, but I did do some serious cookie decorating with my
partner. In fact, we made sugar-cookie snowmen but decorated them Picasso-style. They turned out a bit silly-looking, but they tasted great all the same!

6. Go Ice Skating

Ice skating is a classic winter-time date idea – and for good reason. It’s relatively inexpensive. and they have skating rinks all over the place. Plus, you can make it your own by holding hands and skating at a leisurely pace, or by going all out with some friendly competition.

7. Sing Christmas Carols (Go Caroling or just have an at home karaoke Night)

To be fair, I don’t know anyone in real life who actually goes caroling (see again, those cheesy Christmas Rom-Com’s that make it seem like everyone does it.) But it does look like a fun way to spend a Friday evening. If you’ve got a great voice and you’re not shy, maybe grab your partner and try bringing caroling back.

Or, stay home and have some Christmas karaoke.

8. Decorate a Gingerbread House

You can buy a Gingerbread House kit, or make your own using icing and gumdrops! And, if you have kids, you can do this one as a fun family activity.

9. Go to an Ugly Christmas Sweater Party

Half the fun of going to an ugly Christmas sweater party is trying to find the ugliest Christmas sweater possible. You could even make your own! Take an old sweater and sew on some big, gaudy ornaments or a wreath. Even better – buy or make ugly Christmas sweaters for each other. Don’t show your partner until the day of the party and that way, it’ll be a fun surprise!

Take a Sleigh Ride

This is another Christmas date idea that seems way more common in the movies. But, I’ve
actually seen people where I live doing this, so it’s not entirely unheard of! In fact, if you live
near a park where they do a Christmas light display drive-through, often they’ll also offer sleigh-rides. It’s definitely a cozy and romantic date night idea for Christmas-time.

11. Visit a Christmas Tree Farm

If you still need to put up a Christmas tree, definitely make that into a date! And, even if you
don’t, you can still visit a Christmas Tree farm together just for fun.1

12. Make Ornaments Together

There are so many different ways you can make ornaments – just go to Pinterest and type in DIY Christmas Ornaments and you’ll end up with about a million suggestions. You could make ornaments just for one another, or take the opportunity to make them together and give them to family members for a gift on Christmas morning. If you have a big family or go to a large Christmas Eve party each year, this is a fantastic way to give everyone something small – and also, to have a fun date in the process.
