Tis the season! While you might not yet be watching Christmas movies, I know that very soon you will be. Though some of you are already, I know. Christmas movies help us feel in the spirit, are nostalgic and are generally well loved. Every year, I love to watch certain Christmas movies because they are classics, and because I love them. Do I tire of them? Never!
Personally, for me, the Christmas season begins at the beginning of December. I put up the tree in the first week of December and set up other Christmas decorations as well. I love getting the home feeling like Christmas. And while I don’t right away dive into watching Christmas movies, I do like to get to a few specific ones every year because they are my favourites and I have always watched them. Certain movies make it feel like Christmas, don’t they? And as the magical day draws closer, I start to throw on these movie and just get cozy.
So without further ado, here are the Christmas movies I love to watch each and every year.
Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer
I adore this oldie. It’s such a classic, one I watched as child and one that I still adore. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t love this one, so of course it’s one I watch every year. I used to watch it whenever it came on TV back in the day, but I was able to find it on DVD some ten years ago, and of course I picked it up. It’s the story, the animation, the music, the feeling this movie brings that just makes me feel so in the Christmas spirit.
Frosty the Snowman
This one hasn’t aged as well for me, but it’s still one I enjoy watching each year. I usually show it to my kindergarten class and they really enjoy it. You can’t really celebrate the winter and Christmas season without Frosty in my opinion.

A Christmas Story
I never saw this until I was well into my twenties, and it’s such a cute classic. I love watching this every year. Who can forget the iconic leg lamp and most valuable lesson of all, to never lick a lamp post?
The Grinch Who Stole Christmas
This oldie is another I have on DVD because I love it so much!! It’s not Christmas without this heartwarming, rhyming tale in my opinion. I love this so much that I always read the book to my students, and we watch the movie together as well. It’s a perfect story to discuss with kids too, because Christmas isn’t about presents, as the Grinch learns. I also enjoy the 2018 film The Grinch and watch that as well because it’s so darn cute!!
In the Good Old Summertime
Starring Judy Garland, this might not sound like a Christmas film, but it really is! I saw this on TV some ten years ago, and ever since then I watch it every year. It’s such a funny, cute story and with a wonderful ending in my opinion. Judy Garland has some wonderful song and dance numbers in it as well, though the film is more story than musical pieces. This is a favourite of mine and one I can watch several times in the Christmas season.
